Canton families and staff now have the ability to receive a text message for weather-related school cancellations, late openings and early releases. The district will no longer be calling your home for weather-related closings.

Parents and families: If you have not already, please update your Emergency Contact information in PowerSchool*.

To Opt-In for text message notifications, please read the following instructions carefully:

In order to receive text notifications, your emergency contact information must include an up to date cell phone number in PowerSchool. 

Parents and families: If you do not have a cell phone number on file and wish to receive text notifications, please update your contact information in PowerSchool by following these instructions.

Once you have a cell phone number on file in PowerSchool, you may receive a text message requesting that you "opt-in" to our SMS text messaging service. 

The message you receive will come from our 'short code', 67587, and read similar to the following:

"Canton Public School messages. Reply Y to subscribe or STOP to cancel. Msg&data rates may apply. Msg freq varies. Visit schoolmessenger.com/txt for info"

We encourage you to reply with "Y" or "Yes" when you receive this verification message. If you do not reply, you will not receive any further text messages.

If you did not receive a text after updating your Emergency Contact information: 
You may text "Y" or "Yes" to the SchoolMessenger 'short code,' 67587 to Opt-In for text notifications. Please note that this will only work if the text comes from a phone number that matches a number on file in PowerSchool. 

In the event of a non-weather related emergency, the district will call the emergency phone number(s) on file.

If you Opt-In for text notifications, you will receive both an email and a text message notification for school cancellations, late openings and early releases. All text-enabled phone numbers on file in PowerSchool may be prompted to “Opt-In” to the weather-related text notifications.

Please check with your wireless carrier for information about your mobile service plan and any possible charges related to text messaging.  Our organization does not reimburse for any charges associated with sending or receiving text messages. To opt out of all text messages from SchoolMessenger, visit http://www.schoolmessenger.com/txtmsg/ or reply with "STOP" to the opt-in message that you receive.

*Teachers and staff: please see your school's main office or contact IT if you are unable to update your emergency contact information in PowerSchool.
