KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION 2025-2026 IMPORTANT INFORMATION
First, it is important to note that 2023 legislation shifted the school entry ages for Kindergarten, and will impact the 2025-2026 school year. The legislature passed Public Act 23-208 which changed the cut off birthdate from January 1 of any given school year to September 1 of any given school year. With this in mind, in the 2025-2026 school year, a child must have turned 5 years old on or before September 1 in order to be automatically eligible for Kindergarten. Additional information can be found from the State Department of Education and from the Office of Early Childhood. With this in mind, there are two paths forward.
For families and guardians of children born on or before September 1, 2020, there will be NO CHANGE in the registration process. Those students are eligible to begin Kindergarten in the 2025-2026 school year and are strongly encouraged to participate in the regular Cherry Brook Primary School Kindergarten Registration and Screening process, which you can learn more about at the Kindergarten Parent Orientation on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 6:00 pm at Cherry Brook Primary School. This meeting will provide important information on Kindergarten readiness, what to expect in Kindergarten, and information regarding the requested screening process.
To parents and guardians of those students born between September 2, 2020 and December 31, 2020, a waiver and screening process is required.
Those students will not be automatically eligible to begin Kindergarten until the 2026-2027 school year. If you have a child/ren, born between September 2 and December 31, and are requesting consideration for them to start Kindergarten in 2025-26, we ask you to:

All Waiver Requests are required by Friday, February 28, 2025.
The completed waiver is necessary to ensure your child’s participation in the screening process, which is REQUIRED for a possible waiver.
Attend the Kindergarten Parent Orientation on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 6:00 pm.
Attend the Kindergarten screening on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 or Thursday, April 24, 2025 - the school will communicate regarding the available time slots for screening sessions via email.
Meet with school representatives to discuss screening results and discuss options.
